The Fairmont Firebirds won the last time they faced the Miamisburg Vikings, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Fairmont walked away with a 43-34 victory over Miamisburg. Given Fairmont's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Miamisburg is ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairmont found their leader in underclassman Kaylah Thornton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Roark, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Fairmont and bumps their season record up to 11-5. As for Miamisburg, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Fairmont will look to defend their home court on Saturday against St. Vincent-St. Mary at 2:30 p.m. As for Miamisburg, they will head out on the road to take on Bellbrook at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
