There's no place like home for the Alief Taylor Lions, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Wednesday. They rang in the new year with a 56-49 win over Alief Hastings on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Alief Taylor also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Madison Bush-lewis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with five assists. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nataliyah Gray, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Melinda Winston, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Winston scored a full 30.6% of Alief Hastings' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amyah Weathersby, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Alief Taylor's victory bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Alief Hastings, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-12.
Alief Taylor will head out on the road to face off against Pearland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Alief Hastings, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Alief Elsik at 7:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Nemiah Renfro and Winston.
