The Mentor Cardinals had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 91-79 win over Cleveland Heights. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Ian Ioppolo, who scored 37 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Biddell, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine assists.
Mentor pushed their record up to 11-6 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 91.1 points per game. As for Cleveland Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Mentor will head out on the road to square off against Lutheran East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mentor has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,480 points over their last 17 contests. As for Cleveland Heights, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Euclid at 7:30 p.m. on February 20th.
