The Chugiak Mustangs were the 34-27 winner over the Service Cougars when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Chugiak took a serious blow against the Cougars on Tuesday, falling 65-33. Chugiak was down 45-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Service was led to victory by Karlierose Lealaisalanos and Aryanna Watson. Lealaisalanos scored 17 points, while Watson scored 26 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Watson has scored at least a third of Service's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leia Silva, who scored eight points.
Chugiak's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Service, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chugiak will take on the Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Service, they will be playing at home against the Kings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Alaska (Ketchikan is ranked 44th, while the Cougars are ranked 23rd).
