Kensley Harrison was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Riehle, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Holly Work was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Heritage's offense. They lost 8-0 to Wake Forest on Tuesday. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Wakefield pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Wakefield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wakefield took their win against Heritage in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Will Wakefield repeat their success, or does Heritage has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
