Baseball Game Preview: Mansfield Hornets vs. Marblehead Magicians

The Mansfield Hornets will challenge the Marblehead Magicians at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Mansfield's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Marblehead's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mansfield is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Attleboro just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Bombardiers by a score of 6-5.

Brendan Vokey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. Mansfield is 5-1 when Vokey posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise. James Warren was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Marblehead had no problem doing just that on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Rams 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Magicians.

Marblehead now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Mansfield, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11.

Mansfield was able to grind out a solid win over Marblehead when the teams last played back in June of 2022, winning 5-1. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Magicians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
