Aaron Cortez Turns in Season-Best Performance
Mercedes was led to victory by Aaron Cortez, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Cortez rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 70 yards and a touchdown, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.
The win was the fifth in a row for Mercedes, bringing their record for this year to 8-3. Cortez and Mercedes will take on Alamo Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mercedes Gets a Boost from Sanchez in 45-20 Victory
Robert Sanchez was instrumental in extending Mercedes's winning streak to five on Friday. Sanchez did his part (and then some), rushing for 206 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry for the 'W'. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 118 rushing yards.
Sanchez must have Sharyland's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Sanchez rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown the last time he and the Rattlers duked it out back in September.

Eddie Slovak Dazzles in Lopez Defeat
Eddie Slovak's rushing tear continued on Friday as he dropped his ninth-straight game with 110+ rushing yards. He rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
On the year, Slovak has averaged 25.7 receiving yards per game. It gets even more impressive: after nine games last season, he was only averaging 112.89 rushing yards per game. This year he is averaging 173.33 rushing yards.

A Season-Best Performance from Matthew Cano Leads Edcouch-Elsa over Mission Veterans Memorial
Matthew Cano produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Edcouch-Elsa to the win on Friday. Cano wasn't messing around, making 15 total tackles and defending three passes in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. The match was his seventh straight with seven or more total tackles.
Unfortunately for Mission Veterans Memorial, this isn't the first big game they've seen from Cano. Back in September (the last time Cano saw the Patriots), he made 11 total tackles and snagged an interception.
