Basketball Recap: Coronado Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Coronado won the last time they faced Desert Oasis, and Scarlet Lopez did her part to make sure it happened again. The Coronado Cougars came out on top against the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks by a score of 53-44 on Thursday thanks in part to Lopez, who posted 13 points and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Despite the loss, Desert Oasis saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayleigh Upham went 7 of 17 on her way to 16 points and seven boards. Those 16 points gave Upham a new career-high. Kazel Jones was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Coronado has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Desert Oasis, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Coronado will venture away from home to face off against Bishop Gorman at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Bishop Gorman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.1 points per game this season. As for Desert Oasis, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sierra Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sierra Vista also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 50.7 points per game.
