After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mohawk Area, Wilmington was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Shenango Wildcats as Wilmington made off with an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Skylar Leishman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Avery Harlan was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Karah Deal, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Wilmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shenango only managed four hits.
Wilmington's record is now 4-1. As for Shenango, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
Wilmington and Shenango will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Wilmington is set to challenge their familiar foe Farrell at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Shenango will take on rival Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
