Softball Recap: Swett Comes Up Short

Swett dropped down to 6-9-1 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 21-9 to the Berean Christian Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Warriors have suffered since March 23rd.

As for Berean Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games.

For Berean Christian's part, Audrey Longtin made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Longtin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Sierra Talbot and Izzy Herrera did most of the damage at the plate: Talbot went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Herrera went 4-for-6 with five stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Herrera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Allardyce, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Swett will square off against Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Berean Christian, they will take on Campolindo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
