The Southwest Roughriders waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bertrand 51-21 at home. Southwest has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season.
Southwest can attribute much of their success to Allison Vanpelt, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vanpelt has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Nelms, who scored 13 points.
Bertrand lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emma Brown, who scored eight points.
Southwest's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. As for Bertrand, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest will take on Cheylin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheylin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 226th in Kansas, while Southwest is ranked 98th in Nebraska). Bertrand won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Overton at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Overton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
