Basketball Recap: Tanner Tompkins Key Part of a Team Effort in Tigers Win

Tonasket hadn't done well against Omak recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Tonasket Tigers had just enough and edged the Omak Pioneers out 68-66. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Pioneers are ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tonasket's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tanner Tompkins led the charge by going 10 of 19 en route to 27 points along with six boards and five steals. The game was Tompkins' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristian Jones, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.

Tonasket is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Omak, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-8.

Tonasket will host Okanogan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Omak, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Kettle Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kettle Falls has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
