McCurdy hasn't had much luck against Mora recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bobcats will square off against the Rangers/Rangerettes at 3:00 p.m. McCurdy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
McCurdy is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since April 11th on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Wingate 8-7.
The team relied heavily on Karina Archuleta, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
McCurdy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Mora entered their tilt with Clayton on Monday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Yellowjackets. The Rangers/Rangerettes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Cierra Benavidez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mora got a big performance out of Morgan Benjamin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave Benjamin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Romero, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Mora's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.1 runs over those games. As for McCurdy, their record now sits at 8-15.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McCurdy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .419. However, it's not like Mora struggles in that department as they've averaged .422. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McCurdy suffered a grim 18-1 defeat to Mora in their previous matchup on Wednesday. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
