Blacksburg and Auburn are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Bruins will take on the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Blacksburg has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while Auburn will come in with 12 straight victories.
Blacksburg managed to slip by Christiansburg the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bruins lost 15-5 to the Blue Demons on Tuesday.
Madeline DeJesus made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Beila Watkins, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Auburn got themselves on the board against Giles on Tuesday, but Giles never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won ten contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Skyler Hodges, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Giles off the board. Hodges has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Hambrick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Hope Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Auburn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Giles only posted a batting average of .050.
Auburn's record now sits at 12-0. As for Blacksburg, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Blacksburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Auburn struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Blacksburg might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Auburn in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
