Penns Grove is 0-3 against Cherokee since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Penns Grove Red Devils will be home for the holidays to greet the Cherokee Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. Hopefully Penns Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
Penns Grove scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They walked away with a 69-56 win over Salem County Vo-Tech. With that win, Penns Grove brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Penns Grove had a senior duo take command as Giomar Conrad scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals and Willie Slocum scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Conrad has scored at least 25% of Penns Grove's points. Another player making a difference was Roman Gipson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cherokee came up short against Lenape on Thursday and fell 49-39. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cherokee in their matchups with Lenape: they've now lost eight in a row.
The victory got Penns Grove back to even at 2-2. As for Cherokee, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.
Penns Grove came up short against Cherokee when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 59-50. Can Penns Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
