Basketball Recap: West Forsyth Takes a Loss

If West Forsyth was feeling good fresh off their 64-29 takedown of R.J. Reynolds on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between the West Forsyth Titans and the Bishop McGuinness Villains didn't end well, with the West Forsyth Titans falling 64-46. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Titans of the 39-35 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2020.

When it comes to explaining why West Forsyth lost on Saturday, don't look at Brooklynn King. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave King a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Staples, who posted nine points and five assists.

Leading Bishop McGuinness to victory were Adelaide Jernigan and Claire Sullivan. Jernigan went 15 of 27 on her way to 36 points and seven boards, while Sullivan went 7 for 15 en route to 18 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jernigan has scored at least a third of Bishop McGuinness' points. Olivia Stone was another key player, putting up six points.

West Forsyth has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Bishop McGuinness, their record is now 19-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Forsyth will host East Forsyth at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Forsyth will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something West Forsyth surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bishop McGuinness, they will be playing in front of their home fans against College Prep & Leadership Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Bishop McGuinness has won eight straight at home, while College Prep & Leadership Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
