Walker Valley has gone a perfect 10-0 against McMinn County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Walker Valley will square off against McMinn County at 5:30 p.m. Walker Valley will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Monday, it was close, but Walker Valley sidestepped Soddy Daisy for a 3-2 victory. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.
Olivia Presswood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Davenport was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Karly Blackwell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Walker Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soddy Daisy struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McMinn County). They put the hurt on Meigs County with a sharp 13-5 win on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cherokees.
The team relied heavily on Addie Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Leanne Watson, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Walker Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for McMinn County, their record is now 3-8.
McMinn County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Walker Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for McMinn County, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Walker Valley's hitters?
Walker Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over McMinn County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walker Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
