In what's become a running theme this season, the Mt. Vernon Rams gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 83-36 victory over Marion. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-16.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tiara Johnson, who scored 23 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Melaina Zedalis, who shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds.
Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 23-5. As for Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-18.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Illinois (Massac County is ranked 76th, while the Rams are ranked 56th). As for Marion, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
