The Bluff City Gray Wolves came tearing into Wednesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 57-48 victory over Hillcrest. This was payback for Bluff City, who suffered a 61-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Bluff City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lakeva Applewhite out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was London Carson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Bluff City's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Hillcrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bluff City will take on Freedom Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Freedom Prep Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Bluff City is ranked 146th). Hillcrest will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Memphis School of Excellence at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
