Despite the loss, Mater Academy East Las Vegas had strong showings from Jonathan Diaz, who had nine kills, seven digs, five aces, and three blocks, and Malcolm Lawrence, who had seven digs, five kills, two aces, and one block. Those five aces gave Diaz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roman Taylor, who had eight kills, five aces, and three blocks.
Virgin Valley extended their road winning streak to 11 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Aiden Muniz. Virgin Valley put the hurt on Cristo Rey St. Viator with a sharp 3-0 victory on Friday which was due in part to Muniz, who had 12 digs and two aces. Lawrence is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season.
The final score came out to 25-10, 25-14, 25-17.
Virgin Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's matchup: Mater Academy East Las Vegas hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 7.4 blocks per game. It's a different story for Virgin Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 1.6 blocks. Given Mater Academy East Las Vegas' sizable advantage in that area, Virgin Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
