Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Bedford

Bedford hadn't done well against Maple Heights recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bedford Bearcats rang in the new year with a 74-66 victory over the Maple Heights Mustangs. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Mustangs are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bedford's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaivon Hudson, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 22 points and five assists. Terrell Pollard was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Maple Heights still got an impressive performance from Andre McCullough, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 22 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalin Allen, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Bedford, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Maple Heights, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Bedford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-45 win against Cleveland Central Catholic on the 7th. As for Maple Heights, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-54 victory against Shaker Heights on the 4th.
