If the Westwood Panthers were feeling good off their 53-13 takedown of the Port St. Lucie Jaguars last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Westwood was beaten by Jensen Beach 54-24 on Monday. Westwood has not had much luck with Jensen Beach recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Westwood's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jihla Greer, who scored 9 points. Greer scored a full 37.5% of Westwood's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. TeAnaina Rivers was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 4 steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jensen Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abby Fitzwater, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jayla Brinkley, who scored 9 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jensen Beach, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westwood will square off against Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Lincoln Park Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday. As for Jensen Beach, they will head out on the road to face off against Martin County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
