Pendleton County is a perfect 10-0 against Pocahontas County since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcat will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Pendleton County headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Tucker County let them put that streak behind them. The Wildcat were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Mountain Lions on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcat as it spelled an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Chase Owens made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Pendleton County is undefeated when Owens posts two or more runs, but 2-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, Cole Harper and Caleb Armentrout did most of the damage at the plate: Harper went 1-for-2 with five RBI, while Armentrout went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most RBI Harper has posted since back in March. Cooper Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Pendleton County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Pocahontas County earned a 5-2 victory over Bath County on Thursday.
Like Pendleton County, Pocahontas County also got a great game from a two-way player: Warren Burns. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Burns was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gary Warner, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Luke Gainer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Pocahontas County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-11-1. As for Pendleton County, their record is now 7-13.
Pendleton County took their victory against Pocahontas County in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcat since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
