Basketball Recap: South Fort Myers Takes a Loss

If South Fort Myers was feeling good fresh off their 64-35 takedown of Dunbar last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Fort Myers Wolfpack took a blow against the Gateway Eagles on Tuesday, falling 50-17. The Wolfpack were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-7.

Ja'Meria Church and Za'Niyah Daniels certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Church posted three points along with nine rebounds and three steals, while Daniels scored six points. Church is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Joe'Naisha Mode, who put up four points.

It was another big night for V'Davrielle Johnson, who had 21 points for Gateway. That makes it four consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least a third of Gateway's points. Kenyah Moss was another key player, putting up nine points.

South Fort Myers has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Gateway, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.

South Fort Myers has already played their next contest (against Community School of Naples), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gateway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-46 victory against Aubrey Rogers on the 30th.
