Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Heath Bulldogs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 37-28 to Ironton on Friday. Heath's loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Heath's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Corbett, who rushed for 151 yards on only 15 carries, and also picked up 56 receiving yards. Corbett was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Brayden Bayles was another key contributor, throwing for 157 yards and three touchdowns.
Among those leading the charge was Brayden Schreck, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Johnson made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Heath's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Ironton, their win was their 14th straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Heath does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Ironton will square off against Harvest Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Harvest Prep is ranked 45th, while Ironton is ranked 66th).
