The Denver East Angels will square off against the Northfield Nighthawks at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Things were looking good for Denver East after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 7-3 to Eaglecrest. The Angels haven't had much luck with the Raptors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Denver East saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Lohmeyer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Northfield came tearing into Wednesday's game with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Raiders. Considering the Nighthawks have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Taylor looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Eli Jackson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Peter Worth, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Northfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .654. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Northfield pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Denver East, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Denver East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Northfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Denver East beat Northfield 20-16 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Angels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nighthawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
