The Vallejo Redhawks had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-54 win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent. Vallejo pushed the score to 56-32 by the end of the third, a deficit St. Patrick-St. Vincent cut but never quite recovered from.
Jasier Smith had an outrageously good game as he threw for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. Sedrick Vaughn also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trevor Moelk, who threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jalil Christoff did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 80 receiving yards.
Vallejo is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vallejo will square off against Richmond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richmond comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, they will head out on the road to face off against Saint Mary's at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
