Homestead is 1-9 against South Dade since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Homestead will face off against South Dade at 6:30 p.m. Homestead has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Homestead came up short against TERRA Environmental last Tuesday, falling 18-8. The loss was the Broncos' first of the season.
Audrina Thomason made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Breah Pruitt was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, South Dade had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four last Friday. Everything went their way against the Trojans as they made off with a 16-2 victory. 16 seems to be a good number for the Buccaneers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
A. Guedes was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, South Dade let K. Pena and K. Orta run wild. Pena went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Orta scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of R. Eichler, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
South Dade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Having lost for the first time this season, Homestead fell to 5-1. As for South Dade, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Homestead has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .651. However, it's not like South Dade struggles in that department as they've averaged .563. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Homestead beat South Dade 9-6 when the teams last played on March 11th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Homestead since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
