The Lawrence County Cougars will challenge the Lake Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lawrence County 3.4, Lake 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Lawrence County's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against West Marion, sneaking past 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since April 4, 2025.
The result came thanks to Weston Dunaway's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lawrence County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyne Calcote, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits Calcote has posted since back in March of 2025. Bryce Prestridge also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Lake strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Forest 14-0. Fans of the Hornets have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Lake got a massive performance out of Griffin Boles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Austin Watson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest only posted an OBP of .214.
The victory got Lawrence County back to even at 2-2-1. As for Lake, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lawrence County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
