The Vero Beach Indians will face off against the Centennial Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vero Beach's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Centennial's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Vero Beach took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Central get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Cobras: they've now won three in a row.
Cody Morgan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charles Singletary, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Hunter Johnston was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Centennial beat South Fork 6-1 on Thursday.
Centennial also got a great performance from Armani Estevez as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Estevez also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-4-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Rylan Efron was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Centennial's win bumped their record up to 2-5-1. As for Vero Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Centennial's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vero Beach hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've only averaged .172. Will they be able to contain Vero Beach's hitters?
