Lacie Godby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tara Gruca, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Greencastle hadn't done well against South Vermillion recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tiger Cubs came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 12-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Tiger Cubs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Katie Detro was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haley Iseman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Greencastle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Cascade's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Greencastle, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record.
Cascade took their win against Greencastle when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Cadets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tiger Cubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
