On Saturday, the Simsbury Trojans faced the Newington Nor'easters in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Simsbury came out on top against the Nor'easters by a score of 48-38. The win was familiar territory for Simsbury who now have four in a row.
Several Nor'easters players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kendall Miller, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals. Miller has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Hope Romanello was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds.
Simsbury's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.9 points per game. As for Newington, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simsbury will take on the Titans at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hall will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Trojans are ranked first). As for Newington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Sheehan has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
