The Ballard Beavers will head out to face off against the Stanwood Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ballard will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Ballard sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Roosevelt. That's two games straight that the Beavers have won by just one run.
Colette Howren was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Howren was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
Howren wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wren Wald, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Katie Davis was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Stanwood hadn't done well against Lake Stevens recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Spartans came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 8-5.
The team relied heavily on Rubi Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Dahl, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Stanwood's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ballard, their record now sits at 13-2.
Both Ballard and Stanwood just can't seem to miss. The Beavers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Stanwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ballard came out on top in a nail-biter against Stanwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
