Ocean Lakes is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Cox, who was ranked third at the time (Ocean Lakes was ranked tenth). The Dolphins lost 10-3 to the Falcons on Tuesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Dolphins, who until this game were averaging 2.7 runs allowed.
Ocean Lakes got a good showing from Mitchel Byers, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Byers has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Brady Nagle was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Beau Bracknell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Kempsville entered their tilt with Landstown on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 5-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Chiefs have beaten the Eagles on their field since March 30, 2023.
Kempsville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Monroe, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Kempsville's win bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Ocean Lakes, they moved to 15-5 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Ocean Lakes hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kempsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Ocean Lakes got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Kempsville by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Dolphins repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
