Smethport is 9-1 against Oswayo Valley since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Smethport Hubbers will be playing at home against the Oswayo Valley Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Smethport and 11 for Oswayo Valley.
Last Thursday, Smethport came up short against Port Allegany and fell 54-41.
Oswayo Valley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They were dealt a 85-25 loss at the hands of Otto-Eldred. While losing is never fun, Oswayo Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 728th, while Otto-Eldred is ranked 160th).
Despite the defeat, Oswayo Valley got a solid performance out of Connor Resig, who scored seven points.
Smethport has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Oswayo Valley, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.
Smethport took a serious blow against Oswayo Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 60-30. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Oswayo Valley's Nik Bonney, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Now that Smethport knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
