Football Recap: Garrison Comes Up Short

In Friday's Canine Competition, Garrison didn't have enough. The matchup between the Bulldogs and the San Augustine Wolves didn't end well, with the Bulldogs falling 31-15. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Garrison still got an impressive performance from Avery Yarbrough, who rushed for 162 yards and one TD. Yarbrough's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 162 rushing yards.

A big part of San Augustine's win came down to the chemistry between Max Renfro and his top target Ti'Javian Burrell. Renfro threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt while Burrell picked up 171 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Burrell got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 86 yards.

Garrison's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for San Augustine, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Garrison will challenge rival Hemphill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, San Augustine is set to face off against their familiar foe Shelbyville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
