Davis is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Layton is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Darts will host the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Davis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Fremont, who was ranked 14th at the time (Davis was ranked 18th). The Darts came out on top in a nail-biter against the Silverwolves on Saturday, sneaking past 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Davis saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Weaver, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Tyson Baggett was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Layton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Syracuse. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted against the Titans since April 18, 2022.
Fish Manning made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.
Layton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Syracuse only managed five hits.
Davis is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Layton, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.
Everything went Davis' way against Layton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Davis made off with a 30-4 victory. Will the Darts repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
