Shelby is 9-0-1 against Marion Harding since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Shelby will look to defend their home field against Marion Harding at 5:15 p.m. Shelby will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Shelby turned things around against Norwalk on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Truckers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Whippets have posted since April 26, 2024.
Alyssa Booker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Shelby let Reece Friend and Elise Mullins run wild. Friend scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Mullins got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Bruskotter, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Shelby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Marion Harding made easy work of Lucas on Wednesday and carried off a 19-9 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Presidents.
Allison Hecker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hecker was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Marion Harding got a massive performance out of Raina Smith, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kameron Biederman, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Shelby now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Marion Harding, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Everything went Shelby's way against Marion Harding in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Shelby made off with a 21-3 win. Will Shelby repeat their success, or does Marion Harding has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
