The Campbell Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Marietta Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Campbell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Last Friday, it was close, but Campbell sidestepped Hillgrove for a 52-49 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Campbell.
Marlie Battle was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Brooke Suttle, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Marietta humbled Kennesaw Mountain with a 62-9 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-4.
Marietta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Day led the charge by scoring nine points along with nine steals and six assists. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who scored 14 points.
Campbell now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Marietta, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Campbell have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 34.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Marietta, though, as they've only made 32.5% of their threes per game this season. Given Campbell's sizeable advantage in that area, Marietta will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Campbell against Marietta in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 67-27 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Campbell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
