Joshua Witner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Witner was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Witner wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Skuba, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Skuba has become a key player for MMI Preparatory School: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Another was Nick Pantages, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
MMI Preparatory School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Western Wayne hit Wyoming Area with a four-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors fell 6-3 to the Wildcats.
Wyoming Area also got a good showing from Kristian Pugliese, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Pugliese has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
MMI Preparatory School now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Wyoming Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Wyoming Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: MMI Preparatory School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Wyoming Area, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain MMI Preparatory School's hitters?
MMI Preparatory School took their win against Wyoming Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score.
