Softball Recap: Seven Straight Road Victories for Sweetwater

Sweetwater made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hilltop, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Lancers on Wednesday. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Tatyana Mosqueda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 14 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gabriella Sena was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Layla Silva, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Sweetwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilltop only posted an OBP of .389.

Sweetwater's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Hilltop, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sweetwater will challenge Morse at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Red Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hilltop, they will take on San Ysidro at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 14.8 runs per game this season.
