Basketball Recap: Lily Brisendine's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Victory Christian over Coosa Christian

Victory Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-34 heartbreaker at the hands of the Coosa Christian Conquerors. The game was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but the Lions couldn't quite close it out.

Victory Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Brisendine, who posted 12 points. What's more, Brisendine also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Jemma Hazelwood was another key player, putting up four points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Victory Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Victory Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Coosa Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Jefferson Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Victory Christian will head out to face Jefferson Christian Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Coosa Christian will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
