Baseball Recap: Mcguffey Sets Scoring Season-High Against Washington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McGuffey). They put the hurt on the Washington Prexies with a sharp 17-2 win on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Highlanders: when they faced off against the Prexies on Monday, they had to take a 6-3 loss.

Wyatt Hildreth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of McGuffey's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Logan Carlisle and Cam Dames did most of the damage at the plate: Carlisle got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple, while Dames went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Carlisle has become a key player for McGuffey: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-6-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Johnson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

McGuffey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

With the victory, McGuffey broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-7-1. As for Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That lines up perfectly with their 4-12 record this season.

McGuffey will have a chance to go back-to-back against Washington: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
