The Macomb Bombers will face off against the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Macomb comes in on ten and Abingdon/Avon on three.
While Macomb's win against Beardstown wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bombers skirted past the Tigers 5-3.
Nick Elbe was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. Emmett Beck was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Abingdon/Avon never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Biggsville West Central 9-0. The Tornadoes not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 12-0).
Alex Foutch made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Abingdon/Avon is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-8 otherwise. Foutch was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drey Anderson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Issac Rodeffer, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Macomb pushed their record up to 16-13 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Abingdon/Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
Macomb came up short against Abingdon/Avon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Bombers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
