New West Charter suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Math & Science College Preparatory at home and fell 67-32. New West Charter was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.
New West Charter's loss came about despite a quality game from Liam Hakimi, who scored 13 points. That was a full 40.6% of New West Charter's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jackson Garcia was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Animo South Los Angeles was beaten by Foshay 80-28 on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Animo South Los Angeles in their matchups with Foshay: they've now lost seven in a row.
New West Charter's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Animo South Los Angeles, they bumped their record down to 2-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Everything went New West Charter's way against Animo South Los Angeles in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as New West Charter made off with a 54-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for New West Charter since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
