Basketball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. West Stokes Wildcats

Surry Central and West Stokes are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Surry Central Golden Eagles will head out to take on the West Stokes Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Surry Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup on Tuesday with ease, bagging an 83-15 victory over Wilkes Central. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Surry Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reese Leonard out in front who posted 12 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Leonard a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Stella Wall, who earned 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Surry Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 27 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, West Stokes had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 50-28 victory.

West Stokes' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 21 points. As for Surry Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

Everything came up roses for Surry Central against West Stokes in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 64-29 win. In that match, Surry Central amassed a halftime lead of 35-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
