Schuylkill Haven is a perfect 7-0 against Schuylkill Valley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Hurricanes will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Schuylkill Haven took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Minersville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hurricanes skirted past the Battlin' Miners 7-5. The game was the first time the Hurricanes have beaten the Battlin' Miners on their field since May 27, 2021.
Gracelyn Line spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Joie Schoffstall was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emmie Scherer, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Schuylkill Haven hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Minersville struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Schuylkill Valley hadn't done well against Brandywine Heights Area recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Bullets 7-6. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Schuylkill Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Katelyn Raymond gave up just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits. Raymond has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Martin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Gabby Leone was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Schuylkill Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Schuylkill Haven, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Schuylkill Haven came out on top in a nail-biter against Schuylkill Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Hurricanes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
