Keira Plumley was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Malayna Owens was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Addie Cornelius, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Broadneck was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .679. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, South River got the win against Glen Burnie on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-1. The Seahawks have beaten the Gophers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Gophers has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Hanna Grambo, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Ford, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Broadneck's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for South River, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
South River's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Broadneck has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for South River, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Broadneck keep running through batters, or will the Seahawks buck the trend?
Everything went Broadneck's way against South River in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Broadneck made off with a 21-6 victory. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Seahawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
