Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Extends Winning Streak to Four

Fleming Island entered their tilt with Fletcher on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with a 52-42 victory over the Fletcher Senators. That's more bragging rights for the Golden Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Fleming Island got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Angel Pierce out in front who posted 16 points and three steals. Those 16 points gave Pierce a new career-high. Gianna Crawford was another key player, going 7 of 15 en route to 16 points.

Fletcher's loss came despite strong showings from Jasmine Cross and Fennen Kay. Cross went 6 for 12 on her way to 17 points and three steals, while Kay put up two points. Cross continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mattie Gilliam, who earned two points and three steals.

Fleming Island's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to offensive boards: they averaged an imposing 11.53 offensive rebounds in those games compared to only 11.53 in the others. As for Fletcher, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Fleming Island wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-11 win against Clay on the 30th. Fletcher has also already played their next matchup, a 29-23 victory against Riverside on the 30th.
