The Kewanee Boilermakers will take on the Macomb Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Kewanee put up the most points they have all season on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Stark County. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Griffin Hicks and Lincoln Mason made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hicks tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Mason tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. At bat, Hicks went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Mason went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those two RBI gave Hicks a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kewanee let Logan Peed and Abram Hicks run wild. Peed scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Hicks scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Hicks a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Landon Sheets, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Macomb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Rushville-Industry.
Langdon Lambert put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Lambert was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jake Ogle and Emmett Beck did some serious damage despite the final result: Ogle scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Beck scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those runs were Ogle's first of the season. Nick Elbe was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Macomb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rushville-Industry only managed nine hits.
Kewanee's record is now 3-4. As for Macomb, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Kewanee came out on top in a nail-biter against Macomb in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kewanee since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
